| 2009-08-28 | dee | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | No | Gosh Dan thanks!! that gives us lots of things to check..My sister has lost almost all her vision and her husband just died of lung cancer ,.leaving her with three kids...so the roof leaking is just one more thing she does not need to worry about ...The roofer came back several times could not fix it and ultimately blamesd it on the motar...I doubt he would have admitted to the flashing "omission" so will check that first. The house was built in the 50's in Chicago..so 60 years of miswest winters !! might be bad brick as well. I never would of thought of that one!! AGAIN tHANKS... |

| 2009-07-15 | Gerry Allen | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | Yes | Thanks for the info. I like the idea of the Flow Thru, as it will allow better circulation than the straping |
| 2009-07-03 | Juliette | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | Yes | Dan Merrill is exceptionally knowledgeable and has given me so many excellent suggestions. I would have never thought about having a company's representative on site during an installation, nor had the insight that I am finding is REQUIRED before signing a contract.....so glad that I found this website, especially as a single, female homsowner. |

| 2008-11-07 | jennifer | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | No | Thanks Dan. It does have ridge vents on one side, but not on the other. So it doesn't work and whomever built it did not build it with any overhang on that side to put ridge vents. I haven't been using the bathroom fan, but my brother in law did tell me it is vented outside and not into the roof. Unfortunately, the problem is getting worse and the ceiling is cracked and after it is cold and it warms up it now has a drip - so there is obviously a lot of moisture trapped. A friend that does rehabs was supposed to look at it, but has not done it yet and my brother in law will help me, but is not sure what to do. I will look into Gable vents. Thanks again - it is a hard question when you can not actually see the problem. |

| 2008-10-05 | Mark Yelaun | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | Yes | Thanks Dan You right Sun-based fan with natural valve to turn off is great idea. Well, but in our area at night - attic is still hot after sunset and we run air conditioners it cost a lot. The best of both world would fan working like solar lights using rechargeable solar batteries - so it can keep acting after sunset. Are there any powerfull enough? |

| 2008-08-11 | Tim | 10 | 8 | 7 | 10 | No | Ice/water shield does not have to be used in roof valley's in the state of WI. Since you said to use both, I will, as I was leaning towards that way. Thanks for your input. |
| 2008-07-29 | Nicky | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | Yes | Thank you. I do not believe the coppersmith is terribly interested in the job, so will probably opt for an alternative repair. Thank you again for your help. |

We are a "green" roofing company. We offer information and advice on metal and synthetic cedar, tile, and slate roofing products. We also address good, sound installation practices for lifetime and slate roof installations. Generally speaking, we are experienced with any materials that have 50 year or longer, expected lifespan, such as copper, terne coated steels, Kynar painted Steel, Aluminum, etc. We do extensive Infrared scans of homes with water leaks, moisture damage, air leakage, etc. So we have a good practical knowledge of what works and what does not work in the long term. We offer no advice on asphalt or fiberglass roofing products.
Was a hobbyist/home remodeler for over 30 years. Restored over 30 homes.
After retiring from engineering (27 years), I studied materials and installation practices of high-end roofing materials. This information was tempered by my engineering experience.
We have developed and sell roofing "kits" to roofing contractors who do not have the time to research rarely used roofing products. We ensure that they have all the required materials, tools and information to offer their customers a solid 50 year installation.
