2012-05-29CarolynSomething like maggots101010NoThanks so much, Jessica. By the end of the day they had gotten much bigger, and then we did decide they must be maggots and were just very young. The vet said it was most likely because he was unable to groom himself. It was pretty superficial, so I was able to rinse the area with warm water several times (at recommendation of the vet) and get rid of most of them, so I don't think they caused him too much distress. We did have him put to sleep this morning, so no real treatment was needed, but thank you for your thorough answer. Sadly, he went downhill quickly overnight, so I think the maggots were the least of his worries, but I am glad to have the information for the future.

2012-05-18ShruMy male cat is101010YesThank you so much for the optimistic words. Though I am really feeling low from the time my cat left, but won't give up, as giving up would mean I already lost him. I won't let him leave me that easily, will do whatever I can to get him back. And I'll get him neutered too when I find him, as soon as he recovers physically and mentally. Thanks again a lot. Praying that he's fine wherever he is.
2012-05-17MarthaCat death affect on101010YesThank you so much Jessica. I have had friends suggest I get a replacement for Sylvia right away. But of course I felt not ready. And I do think Eustace has been grieving with excessive grooming. So thank you for advising me to take the time I need to recover from the loss and to evaluate the situation at a later date. He is a social cat and I think he would benefit from another cat to share his life with I certainly appreciate your quick and sensitive response
2012-05-15MaureenKittens101010NoJessica, Thank you so much! I read your response out loud to my family and everybody became so much happier to know we might see our kitties again. I really appreciate your help, and your incredibley fast response. And I promise we we get Nigel and her kittens fixed ASAP(Garbage, our other cat, was abandoned, and she was already spayed by her previous owners.)

2012-05-13WilliamCat behavior101010Yeswe figured out that it actually was the fact that someone else changed the litter and it had angered her, just by chance we bought a new box, new litter and moved the box...and all is back to normal...thank you for your insight.
2012-05-11NikkiKittens playing or fighting?101010YesThank you so much. It's hard watching the two of them because sometimes it looks like one of them is being a little rough, but your answer has put my mind at rest. Thanks again :)

Expertise

The areas in which I have gained the most experience are cat health and feral cat management/rescue. I provide supportive care to chronically ill cats, hospice care to terminally ill cats and also am involved in trap-neuter-return efforts. My specialities lie in taming feral cats and in the allopathic treatment of cats with illnesses or special needs. I also have owned Siamese, Himalayans, Abyssinians, Russian Blues, Savannahs, Bengals, Peterbalds, Don Sphynx and Oriental Shorthairs and am well-versed in cat breeds as well as cat behavior and nutrition.

Experience

I have 15 years of extensive experience with cats ranging from breeding to medical care. My daily routine consists of caring for cats with diabetes, thyroid disease, kidney failure, feline leukemia, feline AIDS as well as feral cats. I have experience with liver patients, heart patients, feline infectious peritonitis, cancer, recovery from amputation and trauma, congenital deformities and most every disease in between. I have assisted cats giving birth and hand-nursed kittens who were neglected by their mother from 2 days old through weaning.
