2008-11-13Jason10101010YesTom, Sorry I took a while getting back. That was a great response. I am amazed that you could put up with that for so long. And it's reassuring that you haven't had to deal with any violence, which is what I've always wondered about. But anyway, it's good that you didn't mince words, that you included the harsh reality of Asian cultures. Hopefully it is still possible to make some good friends there. Actually, I found the easiest way to socialize in Cambodia and Vietnam was to talk to people who worked in shops or drove taxis, since they didn't usually drink on the job -- usually. In those situations, I never had to worry about it. Jason

2008-09-11Travis10101010NoThanks for the info Tom! I am going to be visiting Tibet and if that monastery in Ace ventura was in fact real, I wouldn't have wanted to miss it, but I will definitely take a look at your book to give me some ideas of where to go. Thanks again!

2008-09-09Bill10101010YesWhy doesn't your rating system go above 10? I would surely give Tom an 11 or 12 if it did.

2008-07-14Norman10101010NoYou were right on about the suitability of informal clothes on our tour. In fact, one person in our group had nothing but shorts and tee shirts to wear. He did fine, but we felt more comfortable having at least one somewhat dressier outfit--particularly, as you pointed out, in Hong Kong where we had a really "high" tea on the 18th floor of the Sheraton after we discovered that the wait for a high tea table at the Peninsula Hotel was an hour long.

Your knowledge of the area, and of China in general, leaves speechless. I ask the question out of desparation, never thinking of the possibility that I could get THE ANSWER! Thank you. (P.S.
