2009-10-23KJ10101010NoThanks for the quick reply, the vet squeezed me in on Thursday. He thinks he might have a bit of a respiratory infection so he's on Novotrimel for a couple weeks. He is old but otherwise has been great. His eye was stuck shut today so we helped him with that. Hopefully the antibiotic will do the trick. I did check his teeth and they are fine. I think the drugs make him feel yucky, not eating as much as I would like to see. I'll let you know how he makes out. Take care :)

2009-10-21Stormy10101010NoI am so happy to hear that she may have just sprained her back,, she is moving her legs a little more today, but is still having difficulty manovering around. I did take the tube's off her cage and made her a bed on the bottom level, I do have to help her get to her water, as it is part of the tubing system. I will probably buy her a normal cage where the water sit's between the bars to give her better acsses. Thank you so much for answering my question so quickly. and for the encuraging words. Stormy

2009-10-15Jennifer10101010YesThank you so much. I plan to hit the health store this afternoon after school is out. The vet sent home a medicine called metronidazole, I gave it to him twice last night and gave him some pepto and gatorade. He is actually eating now. He is still extremely frail though. I really do appreciate the advice, it is nice to know that there is someone out there who does care. My daughter and son have prayed and prayed to God to help him, so maybe all will be well. Thank you again!

Expertise

Syrian hamsters are my specialty, however, I have kept Campbells,Winter Whites and gerbils in the past. I can advise on most subjects associated with hamsters, including housing, bedding, feeding, handling, new borns and catching escapees. I have had some experience of various health problems with hamsters and can offer my opinion and advice on basic health issues, however I am not a qualified vet and therefore cannot recommend drugs etc. My website is www.thehamstersite.com

Experience

I have been keeping hamsters and other small animals for more than 12 years. My favourites are Syrian hamsters and I foster litters and 'difficult' hamsters for a rescue centre. My job is to tame hamsters ready for re-homing, which is extremely rewarding. I also enjoy looking after new litters and raising the pups. I have co-written a book on hamsters with my local vet and have a website: www.thehamstersite.com
