2009-10-27Jane10101010YesI was amazed at how fast and thorough Fred's response was. Plus, I was very impressed that he took the time to give me several suggestions for troubleshooting my problem. The problem is not solved yet, but I am very hopeful that it will be soon. I am so glad I found this web site! Thank you!

2009-09-16Julia Gibbins10101010YesHave never been so impressed with the knowledge and prompt reply Mr. Fred Wessells gave. He not only gave great advice, but also prompted me to additional websites so that I could further my understanding of the safety and requirements in my home. Although my original question was about a simple smoke detector, I received a person who was not just knowledgable, but also treated me with respect and even had a bit of sense of humor,..which made me feel comfortable asking questions. I'll put this site in my favorites, and will recommend it to everyone. Thank you very much, Julia Gibbins
2009-08-24Merle10101010NoThanks! It turned out to be a carbon monoxide detector that was going bad. That one was next to the smoke detector and made it hard to tell which one was chirping...I took the smoke detector down and was holding it when the other one went off, thus eleminating the one.

2009-04-30Sheila10101010YesDear Fred P. Wessells, I'm really happy that the stress is off my shoulders that I know now not to look and look for a Coleman smoke detectors but thanks to your help that I know the Kidde brand is the next best thing to buy. Home Depot has one for $8.00 for the basic, I guess yours is a different model due to the price you've paid. I the person that likes to buy something that has quality instead of the cheap stuff that people usually buy and that it does not last too long. I'm really happy with my answers to my questions thanks to your valuable help! Sheila Takamori...

2009-04-24Reema10101010YesThank you very much for your help and speedy reply. I think I know where I can find the battery now. I appreciate it!
2009-04-15Lou8101010Novery quick response.
2009-03-06Mark10101010YesThanks Fred! Very prompt and I feel better about my initial instincts. I plan to replace 3 smoke detectors in the same locations as existing and add a CO detector to maintain safety. I will leave the others in place, but off to maintain my sanity.

2008-12-17Jason10101010NoThanks for your help. We have removed all of the detectors and removed their batteries but the beep persists. We have scheduled an HVAC appointment to put a camera in the duct. Thanks again, Jason
2008-11-22mindy1091010YesThanks so very much.
2008-11-18Debi10101010YesThank you so much I wasn't keen on getting them installed in the first place. I do have 5 of them, but I'm going to disconnect them all. Thanks again
2008-11-13michael10101010Nothank you
2008-11-10Naomi10101010YesThanks again. It really is a puzzle and pretty much made us both jump as we have had the dectector about 2 months and this is the first time it has gone off - normally it just blinks like it's supposed to. I might have been suspsicious had the Propane gas alarm gone off which is an intermittant siren rather than the Carbon Monoxide siren which is the steady alarm. Being that we do have propane in the house, even though it is not on - and the oven had been on for a couple of hours today, I could conjur up some kind of danger but carbon dioxide just doesn't fit because I can't figure out what would make THAT alarm go off. There is a battery powered smoke alarm hanging about 4 feet above the alarm and I replaced the battery a few months ago so all is well there. It really is a puzzle but like you say, we'll keep an eye on it. Again, my sincere thanks for your quick answers and interest.
2008-11-10Naomi10101010YesThanks so much- especially answering on a Sunday night! I feel very reassured - again, I am grateful!
2008-11-04John881010YesThanks for the help. Completely addressed my question.
2008-10-28TERRIE10101010YesThank you so much... unfortunatly I manage a 73 unit apartment complex and we are experiencing false alarms (3 in 5 days)with this panel, the alarm company can not figure out. We have replaced every heat sensor showing any type of damage and now feel it must be in the wiring. Thank you again for the info.... I have been looking at this PC since 7 a.m. this morning and was glad to see there was help available. Now what to do with the info will be the next step.
2008-09-20Kristy10101010NoI really appreciate your answer and prompt response time!! We will do exactly what you proposed - first checking with an electrician to assure the wiring is OK.

Expertise

I can provide advice regarding most aspects of home and personal security & safety, as well as just about anything related to computer security. Lighting to locks to windows and more. I DO NOT WANT QUESTIONS ON ALARM SYSTEMS, other than common smoke/carbon monoxide detectors. This is not my area of expertise. How to keep from needing an alarm system is more in my area!

Experience

I have worked in the industry for 18 years as a security officer, feature writer and editor for a national security magazine and as a security consultant.

Publications
Security Technology & Design magazine, Access Control magazine, Locksmith Ledger magazine, several community newspapers and legal newsletters.
