2009-11-03Alex1091010NoI am terribly sorry that I am responding months after you answered my questions. I am grateful that you have spent the time to address my questions promptly. To be honest I am waiting to learn more, through personal reading and class, before I ask you another question.

2009-08-07Sherrie10101010YesThank you so very much;I wrote and it was too long so I'm not able to really give your comment the benefits it deserves. However, you are so right. As an sda,it's not intention to leave, but be part of bring God back to his people as the main idea and focus.I'm a firebapitzed christian then a sda.the truth is a must for God's people.i know without a doubt that the written covenant of the sda is really an agreement to adhere to the creature, not the creator.I got here looking for th or that this is not of God.Did I hear antichrist? This is not say all is doomed but we must seek diligently to know what is and is not of God.I know also that satan has his own alive and well in all the churches. But what concerns me most is that as a sda,the Lord and sis White never intended this farce of teaching of either of them in this church.my heart breaks and i find myself before frequently in tears because of the hurt and anger it must cause him also.for Christ to be crucified .....

2009-06-02John991010NoTom, I can see how the SDA church identifies more closely with the RCC and more particularly in my readings from Luther I see it identified with the antichrist as Luther identified the antichrist in the RCC of the 16th century.
2009-05-09Alex10101010YesThank you for your detailed and clear response. Before continuing, I would like to first of all apologize for not responding right away. I will post a follow up so others may benefit.

2009-04-16Sherri10101010NoThank-you for your answer. I'm not sure it has cleared up my confusion, as I've read so much this week and so many people say so many things. I have gathered enough to start searching on my own. I've found things in the Bible this week I never knew existed. Your answer did do a lot to help me see I'm at least starting on a right path of finding out for myself and help to ease some pain. Thank-you very much for that.

2009-02-10Sharon1071010NoThanks still a little confused about the reply you made about SDA and Sabbath.
2009-01-20Rudy9949NoI greatly appreciated the effort that Tom put into his answer. It was thorough and obviously required him to spend substantial amount of time.
2009-01-08Rudy9101010YesThank you so much for your answer to my question. I am perfectly satisfied by your answer and find it reasonable based on the facts expressed to explain it.
2008-12-12Rebecca10101010YesThank you for being honest. The websites are very helpful.
2008-11-17Ken1061010YesThank you for your response to my question. I started typing a response to you, but somehow "lost" it, so I'll just sum it up here. You made the following statement: "Only Jesus has the authority to interpret the doctrine of the Sabbath for the church. His teaching and example about how this weekly day is to be acknowledged and observed is what matters most." While the rest of your response was difficult for me to follow (not fully understanding the terminology which appears to be common to your religious perspective), the above-quoted comment did indeed point me in the direction that will lead to my answer, and for that I thank you.

Expertise

I can answer most any question about church history and theology, starting from 1818 when William Miller articulated the 1st Angels Message that became the foundation of the Adventist Movement. While this first prophetic message terminated in the spring of 1844, it was followed by what Adventists refer to as the 2nd Angels Message, which dates from the spring of 1844 until the great disappointment of October 22, 1844. By 1847, the 3rd Angels Message had been developed and this Sabbatarian theology represents the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Moreover, I can explain the historical and theological development of the SDA denomination from its beginning and on through the great Battle Creek schism that forced the SDA's to retreat to Takoma Park. Here the 20th century church recovered from their internal battles that had erupted at the 1888 General Conference in Minneapolis over the definition of the law and the Gospel. Fearing another repeat of this disaster, President Daniels, determined to hide this debate. However, this policy led to more conflict, especially over the role and authority of Ellen White, a unique and accomplished religious writer that had remarkable spiritual gifts. However, by the decade of the 1970`s, the church once again erupted into debate. The hierarchy settled the turmoil in 1980 with the trial of Dr. Desmond Ford at Glacier View. Here Dr. Ford was exiled because he supposedly disagreed with Ellen White over the Fundamentals. But this controversial action resulted in another major schism that is still in progress today.

Experience

Tom Norris was raised as a Seventh-day Adventist in Takoma Park, Md. He attended SDA grade and High schools, moving on to study Adventist theology at Columbia Union College. He also spent significant time conducting independent research in the General Conference Archives and the Ellen G. White Estate. Over the years he has also interviewed a number of prominent Adventist scholars, theologians, and Pastors ranging from the late Arthur White to the exiled Dr. Desmond Ford. In addition, he has amassed a large private library, which includes numerous rare books and manuscripts about Adventist theology and history. He is presently the online editor of Adventist Reform, and can be found at Adventist for Tomorrow answering questions online about SDA theology and history as well as promoting Adventist Reform.
