| 2009-10-20 | Lori | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | Yes | Thank you so much for the expert advise! It was extremely helpful and you couldn't have answered any more quickly! You've helped make doing this project a little less scary. I was concerned about using copper foil on such a large panel but I see now that there isn't anything to worry about with the use of the large roll of reinforcement I have. Thanks for both articles! |

| 2008-11-05 | Claudia | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | Yes | Thank you David! Choice it is!!! I've got some 50/50, but thought that was primarily for decorative soldering because of the melt-rate. I'll try it on "regular" soldering too. I just did a box lantern, and my solder lines on the inside of the lantern were very lumpy. I'll try the 50/50 on that too. As usual, thanks a million for your tips! - Claudia |

| 2008-03-12 | Debbie Speer | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | Yes | FANTASTIC! Thank you SO MUCH! I was sure there had to be some way to salvage this piece but had no idea where to start. Your answer was exactly what I was looking for. This is the first time I have asked an expert online and I couldn't be more pleased with the response. Thanks again! I'll send you a photo of the piece when the repair is finished. |
| 2008-01-18 | Claudia | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | Yes | Man you're fast! And thorough David. Thank you very much. Yes, I have a couple rolls of copper reinforcing strip and was planning on using it. I notice there's also steel reinforcing tape (Strongline). Any comments on that vs. copper? Your website is fantastic, and I'll print out your reinforcing tips. Thank you, thank you! I do have 4 vertical lines that go all the way through and several horizontal lines that are broken by 8 narrow, vertical pieces in a few places. From my quick scan of the tips on your site, it looks like I not reinforce any lines that are broken. Is this correct? Re: the pattern - I wasn't planning on laminating it but laying the Dura-Lar over the working pattern and tacking it down with my Morton layout blocks. Once again, thank you for your incredibly fast and thorough response - you're wonderful! - Claudia |
| 2008-01-16 | Claudia | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | No | David - Thanks so much for your fast response! I've read comments by people from both camps (hand and machine foilers). People say it really speeds up the foiling process, but I don't feel like I'm particularly slow (nothing to base it on though). I'm getting some arthritis in my hands that I really feel after an evening of foiling, so thought I might try a machine. I'll keep asking around, and if I do get one, I'll write you and let you know how I like it. Again, many thanks for your response! - Claudia |
| 2007-12-26 | Andrea | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | Yes | Dear Mr. Gomm, You have served me well, with your answer and explanation of many factors relating to the lead in stained glass products. I have searched the Internet for two days and found nothing that could help me with my question, I posed to you. In addition to the gold medal, I am placing around your neck, it would be my priviledge to nominate you for Volunteer of the Month! :) Thank you so much, Andrea Asher |
| 2007-12-16 | Linda | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | No | Thank you very much for your insights and quick response time. |
| 2007-12-04 | Michelle | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | Yes | Very interesting comments regarding sunlight...this piece does hang in a window that receives a lot of sun...after reading your reply, I think the crack is from a combination of heat and a tight fit! Looser fits and a finer grind make A LOT of sense...just the kind of wise/experienced info I was looking for. THANK YOU David. :) |

Copper Foil stained glass panels are our specialty. Both architectural and residential questions can be asked. We build windows and teach classes in our studio. We design custom patterns by hand and then draw tham using AutoCAD. We recently donated over 100 square feet of glass to the Covey Center For The Arts in Provo, Utah. I write a monthly newsletter that gives tips and tricks for the stained glass trade at www.betterstainedglass.com We also teach classes because the joy of new stained glass students rubs off on us and keeps the hobby fun.
