The reason the cat is still being treated by this vet is because we rushed it back to find out what was wrong when it was obvious the cat had suddenly become extremely ill (it had originally been treated for a sprained knee). The diagnosis was acute renal failure due to a toxic reaction to the Metacam, and the cat was immediately put on IVs for 10 days. Fortunately, it looks as though the cat will recover, and it may or may not have residual kidney problems (CRF). I won't be using this vet again, and now I know always to ASK whether a drug is being prescribed as "off-label" so I can assess the risks BEFORE I go ahead with treatment. |
