And yes, of course, I have read many times about traditional "Tea Ceremony" in Japanese Culture. In a year or two, I would very much like to visit Japan during "Sakura" period...I'll try, definitely. | 2006-08-06 | Marion | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | No | Thanks, Jewel, right on the money. We had a lovely evening, I believe. We addressed our guests as "Mr...." The older, more senior gentleman let that stand, but the younger said, no, and asked us to call him by his first name, so they definitely made their preferences known to us which was a huge help. They went back for seconds on dinner and later asked us to clarify "World Rice" which was actually wild rice said too quickly. They were very gracious and appreciative of everything from the invitation to dine at my home, to the food, to my house. They couldn't have been more agreeable. Because their English was limited, naturally we did most of the talking. I found the best way to get them to practice their English was to ask their favorite American movies (Die Hard, Star Wars, Harry Potter), music Michael Jackson, John Denver). They were delighted to be able to engage in a conversation once we found a simple topic. I apologized for not knowing more of Japanese movies and music, but I did say I love Ken Watanabe which seemed to please them. Thanks for the tips. You were right on. |

I can answer basic Japanese culture questions. I specialize in answering questions relating to geisha.
I have read up on a lot of the Japanese culture today. Most of my reading is in geisha, as I have quite a collection of books and art. I also continue to talk with a previous Japanese exchange student, who I speak with about her country often.
