2009-11-13Eric10101010YesThank you very much Karen for answering my question, it cleared up a lot of issues I had. I'm still nervous about getting a figure eight, but now I am a little more confident, but thanks again. Eric*
2009-11-13Melissa10101010YesThank you very much! I'm happy to report that the fish are doing fine, and we actually found a way to deal with the cartridge situation. The original cartridge was simply replaced with other new media we have thats new in the box for our 55g. I will keep doing the water changes as you suggested. I actually feed the Endlers encapsulated brine shrimp eggs and another type of pellet food that was given to me by the breeder the fish came from. I feed my guys frozen food as well! I have a little variety pack that includes blood worms, brine shrimp, tubifex and other stuff they go crazy over. Thank you so much for your help, it's very appreciated. Your knowledge really shows in all the help that you give! Melissa
2009-11-13Charles10101010NoThankyou for your fast response. I am definantly going to do more water changes, and I have already began feeding my oscar pellets and frozen food.

2009-11-05Julie Cox10101010YesThanks so much - as an update, there are no fish bullying her and today the other fish didn't eat, so we are going to follow your advice with the water change and different food... and we're going to test the water as well. Thanks again and have a blessed day!! Julie
2009-11-01Tianna10101010YesThank you so much for replying to my question. I really don't know for sure if that was the problem, I'm still trying to figure that out. I'm thinking right now I might have had a shell in my tank that was not for aquariums. So I'm still trying. I have a 29gal tank and would like to add cichlids in the near future. Thanks

2009-09-27Carol10101010YesHi Karen, I realize I have taken forever to get back to you about my tank situation and I apologize for that. I had still been battling the same problem this whole time until a week and a half ago. I wanted to thank you for all your assistance, I was so at a loss as to what to do. I was very pleased with your quick responses, waiting is so hard to do when you are worried about your pets but you were very quick and I really appreciate it. I also want to give you an update on the outcome of my tank. During the summer I went out another filter. My existing filter was an Eheim Prof II model 2026 which, you would think, be large enough for my 75 gallon tank. Since nothing else was fixing my problem I thought I'd try a bigger filter so I went and bought the next model up, the 2028. I ran that for a while and it got a little better but not where I needed my water to be so the other weekend I, for some reason, decided to hook up the old filter as well as the .....

2009-09-15Audra10101010YesYou're right, my tank water has little to no alkalinity at all. I test every month. The crushed coral keeps it between 7.0 - 7.2, just wanted to keep it consistent. Also the tank is pretty clean during my monthly siphons. Thanks for your help.

2009-08-12Michael910810YesThanks so much for the input. The spot has begun to fade away slowly and i'm waiting until its gone to reduce the temperature back down. The plesco has also gone back to his normal self, so we'll be only adding salt when we see problems for the time being, especially since we will be adding 4 cory's once we finish cycling. And lastly, now we don't know if our platy is pregnant anymore, although we don't see any fry anywhere. Thanks for all your help!
2009-08-11Gail10101010NoLet's hope it works! Thanks.
2009-08-11deb10101010Yesthanks for retuning my reply but unfortunately he died. He wasnt able to swim on top and just hid on the bootom in the cave. I think it was an intestinal problem. He didnt poop for awhile Deb

2009-08-10Kara109510NoThanks for your reply, unfortunately its too late. "Gutsy" turned 'pine cone' and couldn't swim properly, and is no longer with us. The other goldfish is still looking fine, but should I treat the tank with something to ensure he stays fine? (if you could suggest a product I would be grateful) I'm worried he will catch whatever the other had.

I own and maintain a large number of tanks with many various tropical fish species. During my fishkeeping past I have learned a lot of the myths and truths about tropical fish care. Currently I keep a wide range of species and have a lot of experience in; Severum cichlids, gouramis, platies, goldfish, bettas, tetras, paradise fish, Angelfish, Corydoras catfish, and many others as well as a couple of years with brackish water. If you have a question on tropical fish keeping I`ll be sure to answer it in the simplest way I can, and if I don`t know the answer, I`ll research the answer for you. Happy fish keeping!

Experience

I have experience in setting up fish tanks, what to feed certain species, compatible species in my experience, cleaning the tank,
and all around tropical fish care. I also have learned the truth of many of the myths of tropical fish keeping in the past.
Happy fishkeeping!
