2009-08-24Debbie991010YesAlot has changed over a period of 25 years, being away from horses. The knowledge and know how I used to have, and did pretty well, has been lost somewhere in the past, and bringing it back after all this time, is a hard, and at times an embarrassement to me. Thankyou for your help. I do need an open mind to look at the whole picture. I got this left brain thing from the perelli(spelling?) website. Generally I have a greater interest with John Lyons and Mark Rashid. I am meeting with our trainer today, and I believe I will be told to be much more assertive. Thankyou.

2009-08-04Cheryl98108NoThank you for your timely response. I have been doing as you said and trying to take things slowly. I have been around horses my entire life, but never had a horse that was owned by someone else before, so this is all a bit new to me. I will work on my homework. Thank you
2009-07-02Cortney10101010YesThank you soooo much! I can't wait to get on and try this!:D
2009-06-22Reneé Griessel10101010YesThank you so much for your reply. I think you are hitting the nail on the head. It started at the derby show and I think my daugther was very nervous of the derby type jumps. Now its a vicious circle - daughter nervous pony doesn't jump, pony doesn't jump, daughter more nervous....I will certainly work through it in the manner you suggest and will let you know what transpires. We really appreciate your time and assistance. Best regards Reneé Griessel

2009-04-10Anne10101010YesThank you again Denise for your expert horsemanship advice and support. It is truly appreciated. It is truly wonderful to talk to someone about some issues that you might be having with your horse. Sincerely, Anne
2009-04-06Anne10101010YesThank you so much Denise. I truly appreciate her response. High 10. You response is really helping me to understand why my young mare is behaving the way that she is and secondly, I am trying to prevent her from being abusive to my older mare. This past Saturday, I tested them both again in the cover arena. Just as they started to run a few lapse around the ring, my youngest mare tried to get near the older mare, I snapped my whip on the ground and raised my voice at the younger mare and she instantly stop, but moved away from Della. I also told my older mare to move and get away from her. Lastly, I made both of them stand apart from each other and wait for me to come and address each one individually. When I try to talk to the older mare alone, the younger mare will walk over to my space. I am determined that she is going to listen to me. Being relatively new at horsemanship and I looking for ways to improve myself with them. I used to have a fear of the younger mare and I have justed started riding .....

2009-03-20Steve891010YesDenise, Thanks so much for your prompt response. You certainly know the routine with rope horses being ridden like motorcycles. Like most relationships with people, with horses it is built on time, caring and mutual respect.

Expertise

I am a student of the Horse. How to deal with "problems" and find SOLUTIONS with real QUALITY that RESPECT the HORSE is my goal for this site. It has been my great fortune to be able to focus the last 12 years studying the Buckaroo/Vaquero style of horsemanship, this is what the Natural Horsemanship movement is based on. Ray Hunt, Buck Brannaman, Ricky Quinn and Bryan Neubert are my teachers and mentors. I continue to study and ride with these great horsemen. I am happy to offer help in starting colts, re-starting troubled horses, helping you find a "better way" with horses and sharing with you what it means to be a student of the horse. Western show disciplines; Showmanship, Trail, Horsemanship, Western Pleasure, as well as Hunter Under Saddle and Three Day Eventing are my passions. I enjoy sharing my 30+ years of experience with all levels of horse owners; children, amateurs and serious competitors. Please visit me at: www.laurelmountainfarms.com

Education/Credentials
Learning good horsemanship is an oral tradition passed from master to student. At an early age I started riding with noted clinician Richard Sharake at Horsemanship West. Although I have ridden with many top flight trainers and instructors, Ray Hunt has been the most influential and has had the greatest impact on my horsemanship. To be a student of the horse and to in some small way pass along the gifts Ray has offered to me, is my greatest educational accomplishment.

Awards and Honors
I have campaigned horses to many State and Regional titles. My horses and I have earned 14 AQHA High-Point All-Around titles, won multiple AQHA year end high point awards, and have qualified for the AQHA World Show.
