2009-08-27Debbie10101010YesThankyou again very much. It looks like then we are doing things right. Our trainer does lunge him with the saddle and bridle on. She has a way of tying up the reins, so as not to interfere with the lunging. When I lunge, I sometimes have the saddle on, but I am "lost" on how she does the rein thing, even tho she has explained to me several times. She has taught us to do as you say, with the bending and one rein stops. I do practice them on the ground, and in the saddle. He does quite well. Think I am just insecure in thinking that when that head goes waayyy down, I could be in for a buck, and I don't want to "tick" him off, by pulling him up or "straightening" him up,making him mad to do it. Our trainer is working on that. I know I need more practice, and that "fear" feeling I have to work on. Just don't seem like the same horse sometimes! Thankyou again, and take care.
2009-08-25Debbie10101010YesThankyou so much for your quick reply! Our trainer does give me lessons on my horse as well. If I were to have a problem, she will want to know about it, and she will handle it. She will ride him, do more ground work, watch us. She does give me confidence with her knowledge and patience. There is not a horse around that I think would work out for me that is well seasoned. The ones that are great are more the size for kids. Other horses are warmbloods and too spirited I think for me! I was told the last 2 days when the temp went from hot and humid to cold, many horses were acting up, including mine. Today my layed back horse, in the round pen, being lunged, arched up his tail real high, tucked in his head, and did a beautiful prancing trot around the pen. Then at the lope, he did 2 big bucks, then stood still, put his head down, lowered his lowered lip, and dozed off, just standing there! Thankyou very much. Your answer also helped me to feel better on working on my confidence. Take care.

2009-03-12STEPHANIE10101010YesJennifer: Thank you so much for your reply. I had a funny feeling that his tongue was the issue and will try to move him from his halter back into his bosal - which is what I wanted to ride him in originally, anyway. No one else said they'd ever had horses with tongue problems, so this was a great help to me. Can't thank you enough for pointing me in the right direction!
