I have spent hours on the internet and found some articles re pre-eclampsia where the issue of agression to puppies was discussed. They all recommended calcium. We increased Ella's calcium tablets to 4 a day and she is now a perfect mother. Her diet includes lots of raw chicken necks/minced up chicken frames (and her normal diet of course) and she is very happy. Puppies are gorgeous and gainly weight nicely. I thought this info could come in handy in case anyone else has this issue "down th4e track". Hope your renovations are gone smoothly - it can be quite stressful when the contractors "take over".
