| 2009-05-05 | John | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | Yes | Hello Steven, I'm grateful for your intelligent reply to my query about composition using modes. I will enjoy experimenting further based on what you've said. I'll also try taking the chord sequences of songs that I already know and try converting them to use the different chord relationships of the modes to get a sense of how they feel. Excellent service. I wish you well, Kind regards, John Hanna |

| 2009-02-12 | Simon | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | Yes | I can't thank you enough for this. It answers all my questions and much more. The detail and length of your reply was quite unexpected...and I entirely agree...Barber's "Adagio" IS probably the best string orchestra piece written in the 20th century. Sincerely. Simon |
| 2009-02-05 | Chip Michael Clark | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | Yes | Dr Rosenhaus, Thanks for the very detailed response. It was pretty much what I already knew, but really nice (as nice as difficult information ever is to hear) to have confirmation. It is also nice to think I am on the right track, I just don't have the time and portfolio yet to be successful. But at least I know I'm not headed in the wrong direction. Again, thanks for your reply. Chip Clark http://interchangingidioms.blogspot.com |

| 2008-09-10 | Dave | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | Yes | Hi Steven Well an unbelievalbe ammount of thanks to you, my rattled brain has been settled. I do have some orchestration books, but not the one you mentioned. I will be sure to purchase this. I think the problem is the way I am asking the question in my mind to how it is written in the book. I never realised how hard a job a conductor can have with these romantic works, so I will bear that in mind. I think for my first orchestral piece, divisi method will be left out, jsut to be kind to the conductor, theres other ways of encompassing a great sound, im sure. Much thanks again, your answer can not be faulted, and a prompt response too. Regards Dave |

| 2008-03-12 | John | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | Yes | Once again Steven, I need to thank you so much for your help. It is so good to get the perspective of someone who is actually out there, active in the field. It helps me to gain a more objective view of orchestration and of the flexibility and limits of the orchestra. You shall probably hear from me again. John Hartmann |
| 2008-02-29 | John | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | Yes | I thank so much you for your help. As a person who has been teaching myself orchestration over the past 10 years your help is much appreciated since it is often hard to find sources for some of the "out of the way" questions, such as "how to indicate that half of a string section is to play" that can come up. My Finale software, my Digital Performer sequencer and my Kurzweil 2600 do wonders for learning orchestration from scratch, but I cannot ask this equipment such questions as you have been able to answer for me. Most likely I shall be back with more questions in the future. Bravo!!! Thanks again! |
| 2008-02-20 | Aimee | 10 | 10 | 10 | 10 | Yes | Thank You Soo much! This has really helped me, and I feel a load more confident in writing them now! =D! So, thank you once again! And, btw I didnt think the lyrics were bad! I was ratherr impressed with the rhyming! |
