2009-11-23Jescie10101010YesI appreciate Ms. Cronk's gracious spirit and her willingness to provide such helpful information. Due to her response to my question, I'm relieved to know what to do about restoring my beautiful desk. And I'm finding that I value the desk even more since she described (succinctly and even poetically, I'd say) Nature's part in creating what we call "bird's eye maple." I am so grateful for Ms. Cronk's down-to-earth and caring approach. Thank you! Jescie France
2009-11-13Richatd10101010YesI am plesently surprised and thankful. I was expecting a request for money to hear my answer. I searched the web for days, with no results. I was growing very disapointed. After all this is supose to be the "information highway". I thank you again. I think the table is just to cool.

2009-10-14Bob10101010YesExtremely fast response and obviously has subject matter knowledge. The response seems workable but have not had the chance to experiment with the process. I will and report my findings. Thank you for your time and attention to this frustrating problem. Eileen gets a AAA++++ rating.

2009-09-11Nadine10101010YesThanks! I've never used this site before - was surprised at your quick response. I've never seen this chest on any of the web sites - my mother bought this in 30's or 40's. It was the last piece of furniture to leave the house - I couldn't part with it. Someone painted it so I have a big job ahead - but I will refinish it and hopefully find a shop that can match the missing piece of wood. Thanks for your help. Nadine

2009-07-23Michele10101010YesThank you! Never thought to use just suds. That should keep away the "wet ring" left behind. Can't wait to get to it.

2009-06-29carol brennan clouse10101010YesThank you Eileen. Your kind reply to my question was appreciated. Hopefully, your request for others to perhaps answer my question will result in information for MY grandchildren to have. There is a photo in the GR Museum of Joseph Heyda (real or not?) in the Michigan Room, where the floor lamp is displayed. The shaft of the lamp is carved into a scarf-clad woman (his wife, certainly). The twin lamp is owned by someone in Indiana? I believe.
2009-06-15Cat7101010NoThanks. My though was some sort of early record player/victrola. I just hoped Dayola would ring a bell. Thanks for the prompt response. Cat

Expertise

I can answer most questions about the repairing and refinishing of all your old furniture items (the things we call antiques). I can also give you advice on what wood items to choose and what wood items to avoid at auctions, flea markets etc. I DO NOT give appraisals on antiques as this is not my field of expertise.

Experience

I have been repairing, refinishing and of course buying old furniture for the past 30 years. On any given weekend I can be found at auction sales or flea markets searching out a good buy. I have taken several courses in this area over the years, but I find "Hands On" learning to be the best teacher. I can help you avoid the pitfalls and problems of this wonderful rewarding craft.
