2009-03-18Tom10101010YesAkshay, Thank you for the detailed answer. It's been awhile since I used algebra, but I did understand your explanation. You even answered what would have been my next question about the fixed aperture over the zoom range of the more expensive lenses. I'm taking a class now and am doing well. I will be signing up for an advanced photography course at the continuing education department of a local college in the summer. They also offer an Adobe Photoshop Elements class that I am going to take. I have been told that Elements provided a good range of editing tools without the expense of the full version of Photoshop. Thanks again for the great response and I wish you well in all of your endeavors. - Tom

2008-11-20Joe10101010YesThank you so much Akshay. Now it's so much clearer to me. You know how it is if you're not in the field. I appreciate the fact you've told me about the trigger voltage thing as a bonus. I have started to look around and decided to go for the wireless flash trigger. It's practical and a lot more safer that the one with the cords. My friends hate me coz I don't like to shoot indoors because of straight on flash lighting. It's that harsh shadow and that one point perspective lighting that bugs me all the time. I always wanted to try this for a while but just don't know how. Lighting in a different angle just gives you that professional look you know. Again I wanted to thank you. You're awesome.

2008-02-07Chloe10101010NoThank you Thank you Thank you! Unfortunately all I had was what I sent you - your guess is as good as mine! Your information has been very interesting and thought-provoking. I don't have any experience with lighting so I obviously need to look into that. Thanks again for your help. Chloe P.S. I am so sorry I got your name wrong! (had been a bit sneaky and posted the same question to different experts to get different points of view and forgot to change the name. Sorry!)

Expertise

I can answer questions questions relating to SLRs (35mm or DSLRs) and general photographic technique. I have good knowledge and understanding of photographic principles (film or digital) and lighting. Questions about studio lighting, studio flashes, and flashguns are also welcome. Questions about theory (e.g. colour theory, guidelines behind composition, depth of field, etc.) are welcome as well. Digital photography also involves some amount of post-processing using an image editing application such as Adobe Photoshop; a program that I am proficient with. I cannot answer typical generic questions, viz. "Which is the best camera?," as the short and sweet answer to questions such as those is "There is no such thing." Furthermore, there is a lot of literature available on the web pertaining to the same.

Experience

I'm a professional commercial photographer and have been passionately taking photographs since I was 13 years old. In totality, I've been involved in photography in one way or another for over a decade. I've used various cameras (and lighting equipment) over the years, including but not limited to Minolta/Konica Minolta, Nikon, Canon, and Mamiya.
