2009-11-22Lisa10101010YesI DO NOT feel that you deleivered your message harshly at all. I appreciate the directness and honesty, because I am going to have to make a strong, year long commitment to my doggie to help him be the best that he can be. Madeline's comments left no room for doubt about this - and she was looking after dog, not me - which is what I ASKED. Thank you for this. For anyone reading this response - please do not follow my lead. In desperation to get a dog that was "hyp-allergenic" AND "cute as hell" it led us to contact the same "breeder" that a friend had used from Texas (I am in NY). We actually supposedly received the brother of the very dog we were trying to duplicate. They ARE identical dogs, but just one or two litters later - we got a puppy with "issues". When I tried to contact them about this, they were mysteriously GONE. I would NEVER do t this again. We would have know in an instant that this puppy did not like to be held - something that we had been waiting for for 20 years. Do npt buy a puppy .....

2009-06-19Rebecca1010107NoThankyou Madeline for your prompt response. One of the dogs died this morning of a paralysis tick, so now we are down to one male and one female. the male is going to be neutered in the next fortnight, and we have put a layer of shadecloth over the fence. from watching the dogs play tug-of-war with a piece over the last six months, we have deduced that shadecloth is a dog-proof substance. We have left a strip of shadecloth at the bottom about a foot or so wide, which confuses them, and which we will cement into a trench and line with large rocks from a disused quarry.
2009-06-16Becki10101010YesI appreciate the answer given... a whole lot of food for thought...

I will try the vet thing first but I do agree that with things that have happend to her she needs a behavorlist. Again thank you and I appreciate your honesty.

2009-02-19Lillian7101010NoThank you very much for taking the time out of your day to adress my problem. However, I don't think that my neighbor will be willing to pay for an expert since she's already invested so much into this dog. More and likely she's goin to end up taking it back to the pound. Thanks for trying though.
2009-02-09Nancy10101010NoThank you so much.
2009-02-02Patricia10101010YesI never thought about asking for a breeder's consult. Thank you for the advice. I will try it and take my lab to the breeders to meet some potential companions. God Bless You.
2009-01-11Heather8101010Yesvery knowledgable but of the same things i already know i'm looking for further info on the night time problem since i have done everything you have mentioned and more.
2009-01-10Doris1091010NoThank you for your quick response. I plan to follow your advice and have them all taken for a check up. The mom has since let me touch her and babies and is now eating and drinking water. I do think she belongs to someone and will keep an eye out in the paper. Thanks again for your time.
2008-08-30Daniel10101010NoWow--Thank you so much for the thorough response. I will be getting a new leash this weekend and will find a professional trainer to help me train Max so when these situations happen I'll be confident he will return. He absolutely chaes cats, and any type of rodents, including birds. He is mix of shi tsu and some terrier. He is extremely smart and learns quickly. Thanks again for the pointers. Daniel.

2008-06-21Vanessa10101010YesGreat answer!!! I had the initial question (Vanessa) and let me clear things up first. The fight happened when I was walking him on the 11th. The mutts reappeared that following Sunday, hence my story about my dog being on the porch when I returned. I took your advice and took him to the vet, told them about the wild dogs, and had him treated. Turns out he had an infection on his scalp from where the 1 dog was pulling his hair out, so he gave me pills to give him for that and an ear infection from where the scalp behind his ear was pussing and draining into his ear so he gave me drops for that. I couldn't do the rabies shot yet, the vet said he didn't want to do it while he was healing. Since his visit, he's been doing much better. He's playing more and staying awake more, but we're not out of the woods yet. I caught the end of the fight on videotape for proof in case i find out those two dogs do indeed belong to someone. Thanks for all your help, Vanessa

When you submit a question, let me know that you have read my bio completely by putting at the beginning of your question: "I have read your bio and agree to read and rate your response fairly within three days." Unless you agree to this Virtual Contract, your question will be rejected as I'll know that you didn't take the time to read my bio. Questions re: canine behavior AS IT RELATES TO TRAINING, tricks, and everyday behaviour and interactions and which are NOT related to possible medical conditions ARE WELCOME. I will AUTOMATICALLY REJECT questions of a medical nature which don't relate to training. Questions about itching, sores, oozings, pregnancies, and the like will NOT BE ANSWERED by me. My answers reflect research, extensive experience, and formal, ongoing, self-motivated education in the areas of animal science, hehavioral biology, and behavioural psychology. If you dislike my answer because I've been honest, don't blithely rate me 'down' or say I was impolite when I wasn't. When you ask me a question and get my response, you can expect an honest answer although it may suggest you have work to do. Such isn't a reason to take shots at me in ratings. I am always polite. Your question must make sense, be well structured grammatically and not require that I "decode" misspellings or sentences. If you would like to retain my services in the NYC, NJ, or Palm Beach Co., FL areas, please contact me for training. If I answer within the time frame provided by AllExperts, don't unfairly comment that I didn't answer your question quickly enough. If you have an emergency or feel your dog is behaving in a way which may compromise anyone's well being, call a vet immediately. If your dog dies or is euthanized after I respond to your question, don't lash out and blame me for your dog's death. If your dog seems ill get your dog to a vet ASAP and don't depend on any expert here to save dogs' lives within the generous time frame provided here to respond.
