2009-11-18Kate9101010NoThank you! I appreciate the outside opinion. I think I'm going to avoid removing it as long as it isn't getting bigger or bothering him. And if it does have to go I'll ask about local anesthesia. I'm sure I worry about this rabbit more than is necessary, but I've had him half my life (I'm 19 and I took him with me when I went to college) and he's kind of my baby. It's nice to have a little reassurance that I'm not crazy for worrying about sedating him.
2009-11-17roz1010810Nothank you and yes the mums were very skinny as the man i got them from had no knowledge of proper rabbit feeding and just let them run free to eat what they could find.judging by my timeline i will know for sure by monday (today is wednesday)i did read although rare a rabbit could be pregnate twice due to different egg something or other anyway as this was my first time asking a question i'm in australia and the bunnies are new zealand cross i thank you very much

2009-11-17Cindy10101010Yesthank you for the help. I was wondering as this kind reaction is what I have witnessed with my cat years ago. She had an infection. Willie was fixed when he was 2 but I have not taken him to a vet since then. I will look for one and have him seen.
2009-11-16Mishelle10101010NoHi, Dana, I could not wait and I found an emergency vet in Palm Beach last night. Thanks for your fast reply, I will do just that. My other bun is ok, but I lost 2 of my children, very sad. I am in Hollywood, FL> By the way , if you ever need volunteers, I would love to help. I have open space in my heart and home for another bun if you know of any that need a home. Best Regards, Mishelle.
2009-11-16Brittney1081010Yes She was extremely helpful and patient with me. I appreciated her feedback and that she didn't jump to conclusions but helped me to remove the likliest culprits through our back and forth questions and answers. Definitely helped me a lot!

2009-11-14Catherine10101010YesHi Dana, Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. You have given me peace of mind that my vet is going along the right tracks. I have recently moved into the area so he is still earning my trust. They took a skin biopsy from 3 of the scabs and I expect to get the results in the next 7-10 days. Pleased to say he is recovering from the operation well - although he is dismissing me at the moment! Will let you know the results. Thanks again. Catherine
2009-11-14Sherry10101010YesThanks so much, Dana, for your swift and helpful reply. Looking at the invoice my husband brought home, looks like we have been giving Penone Pro G Penicillin every 48 hours. We are starting with Baytril every 12 hours for 10 days, after which I guess it's every 72 hours. After Thanksgiving we will decide about the possible surgery. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your input. Thanks again!

2009-11-09Emily10101010YesThanks for your prompt answer. We are still not sure if our rash is due to our bunny and still can't see any signs of fleas or mites in her fur. At least we now know not to use any 'Frontline' products on her. Thanks again, Emily's Mum.
2009-11-09Danielle10101010YesThank you so much for your advice, Cali the bunny went to the vet and is not pregnant and the partial blindness is from a bacteria growing on her eye, I've been giving antibiotics and eye drops to her daily, which has made the redness go away but not much of the cloudiness. I'm not sure how long this problem has been in her eye and the vet said it may be permanent. Cali had her first outside adventure hopping through tall grass and loving the fresh air! She is beginning to get used to my boyfriend and I and she loves her new large house!! I know with lots of love and attention she will be completely comfortable with us soon.
2009-11-09Kate10101010NoThank you very much in the speed and thoroughness in addressing my questions. I often refer to your H.A.R.E website and allexperts to learn more about rabbits. I find them a great resource to be able to access.
2009-11-08Nadia10101010NoThanks so much Dana, I will print your advice and get a second opinion on Oliver's symptoms.
2009-11-08Dawn10101010YesDana was very thorough and knowledgable with her answers, and very compassionate towards my sadness. Her quick response was also appreciated.

Expertise

I've lived with companion rabbits for more than 35 years, and consider them members of my family. I can answer any questions about the biology and health of rabbits, from the commonplace to the unusual. But please note:

RULE #1:
THE INTERNET IS NOT THE PLACE TO SEEK HELP IN AN EMERGENCY.

...it is an EMERGENCY.

Find a rabbit-savvy veterinarian at www.rabbit.org/vets for immediate help, and don't risk your bunny's life by spending time asking questions online!

RULE #2:
Help me help you! Please make your subject line informative if you have an urgent question. then LET ME KNOW IN THE SUBJECT LINE so I can give your question highest priority over non-urgent questions. If you don't do this, then I can't guarantee timely assistance!
