2009-10-20Doug10101010YesI think Mr. Painter is an absolute Savior for those of use who love cars but don't really understand the mechanics. I have sat around reading the threads on the Cadillac website for literally hours...Not just as to the used Caddy I recently purchased but as to other vehicles close to mine in year. The patience and knowledge he doles out so generously is astounding and wonderfully refreshing. His service to all of us represents the best of what the internet could and should be.

2009-09-17Jimmy10101010YesRob, Thanks for the reply. I hadn't thought of the safety issue, thanks for confirming my guess on the appearance. Her 2000 LeSabre only has 44k miles on it, so this was a vanity thing, not a necessity. Thanks again for the response. Jimmy

2009-05-12Lisa10101010YesThank you for your excellent advice. Unfortunately, my insurance company wants to total the car. I will never be able to do this work myself. (single mother/student with few resources). I tried to talk the insurance company into having this work done, but they said it won't be worth it. I disagree, but nothing I can do. I hate to lose this great car, but I will buy another Cadillac when I am working again. Thanks again for your help. Lisa Foster

2009-05-06Ray10101010YesProblem solved.it's as if the computer needed time to boot up.After splicing in resistor and reconnecting battery, no starter. But after sitting for a while,on next attempt,BINGO!I'm not sure what that delayed response was all about, but who cares.SHE RUNS!Your The Man.I thank you,my father thanks you,my mother thanks you,and my brother thanks you...Oh,my sister too,but she drives a Ford.once again,Respectfully&Thankfully,...Ray.

2009-05-04Ed10101010YesThanks, Rob. That's what I figured. These folks are known in this town as rip offs, but this is my first experience with them. They got there's from me this time, but never again. I appreciate your advice.

Expertise

Alarm system questions cannot be answered on this forum. These systems are not what I can answer. Without being physically at the vehicle and not knowing what kind of electrical service has been done on the vehicle, there is no possible way to give an accurate answer over the internet. My expertise is in Ignition/key based anti-theft systems. These issues include GM VATS (resistor chip in key blade) PASSLOCK (MRD)-ignition lock rotation based, no special ignition key and the PKIII Transponder (computer chip in key) systems. These systems are not alarm based and are integral with the starting of the engine. This is why I cannot diagnose alarm problems without physically looking at the vehicle: Alarm systems are a completely different annimal than ignition key/lock based anti-theft system. Many alarm questions come from vehicles 10 years old, and since older, many hands that had been involved over the years.I am an expert in all GM factory (ignition/key based)systems. Alarm system questions pose to many situations beyond my knowledge as to what has been done to the vehicle over the years. Some guy may have actually wired the stereo into the alarm system. Who knows? Over my past 30 years in vehicle wiring repair, I have seen unbelievable wiring disaters done by guys that consider themselves "mechanics." I have seen stereos and alarms intalled using surgical tape. I have seen modules burn up, un-fused circuits, wiring jambed between the doors and even lamp cord used for a starter kill. To answer alarm questions over the internet without examining the vehicle is like asking; What does it take to remove a dent?
