2009-11-07Gene10101010NoWell basically what you've told is already what I researched. What I found in my research is there is a couple of openings that could be possible. I read in the Mystical City of God a description of how the Apostles wrote this. How true it is, I don't know, but the book says it has been aclaimed and approved by the Church. I don't know.

2009-10-26Victoria10101010NoThank you Edward. Those bible passages are enough. Being wary of non-Catholic teachings or doctrines is ideal lest one lose the faith they have inherited.

2009-08-01gregg10101010YesYou are a genius! and a generous one to boot. Thank you for your great and thorough answer. I had come upon these 3 texts when I consulted the Interpreter's Dictionary of the Bible, under the heading "Commandment:" [The] combination of Deut. 6:5 and Lev. 19:18 [i.e. Jesus' command to love God and neighbor] is already reflected in certain intertestamental writings (Test. Iss. 5:2; 7:6; Test. Dan 5:3). Your quotes support this, and I am printing your answer for my fellow novices. Gregg
2009-07-10Bob Hadley10101010No Dear Edward, Thanks very much for your discussion of my concerns, and for the prayers you have offeredon my behalf. I will explore the sections of the catechism that you have cited, and continue to meditate on these issues. Several of the propositions you have stated do, of course, express well the official teachings of the Holy Mother Church. But, my faith is not founded upon authority or upon scripture, to any significant extent. I do find portions of some of the Gospels, especially that of St. John, to be inspiring and helpful, but as you know, there is much dispute concerning the attribution of particular "sayings" to Jesus. Even according to Church tradition, the gospel of John was written at least 40 years after the ascension of our Lord. Many scholars doubt that the author of that gospel was one of the apostles. Anyway, I may want to consult you further. I need some time to ponder matters further. Thanks again, Pax Domini, Bob

2009-06-07Chris1071010Nothank you for your response however i'm still a little confused on the topic. so it doesn't acually pretain to us being the image of god only that we r his chosen people?

2009-04-16R10101010YesThank you again. Probably a masters research paper worth doing considering the assault that marriage, the family and opposite sex unions are currently facing.
2009-04-16R10101010YesThank you, your point was concise and to the point and hit the nail on the head, I would, indeed, love to hear more of your thoughts and ideas on this.

2008-07-25Jiminy Cricoids10101010NoUnh-huh. You neglected to speak to the other question to Jesus, in the passage in John where it is asked if the man blind from birth is so because of his sin... Nor is there enough textual evidence in the Gospels for reincarnation as a belief or working theory in Judaism and the people of the time and the other religions or philosophies present. It would take outside knowledge which I don't have...and you are silent on. This is material to the question, whether Jesus knew about and/or heard about reincarnation, possibly explaining why he doesn't simply laugh Peter away, in the Matthew text, or laugh off the questions of the man blind from birth. Since you suggest the Origen's ideas are of the "novelty" variety, you are implying that no one else from 33 AD to 535 AD, in the Christian tradition, has a credible comment supporting the doctrine, theory, or speculative question of reincarnation. Nor do you speak to the question of the resurrection of the body, to which we profess in the Creed, nor of entrance (somehow) to a state and/or place after death on earth...but I realize you already have settled this question in .....
