Instructions from the Expert:

I AM EXPERIENCED WITH TORTOISES, NOT TURTLES.  Please be very detailed when asking your question if you want a decent answer.  If you're asking about a tortoise you keep, I need to know the species and EXACTLY how it's set up:  type of enclosure and size; substrate; type of heat and UVB source (brand and wattage); temperatures at warm and cool ends of enclosure; water source; diet; frequency of soaking; etc.  The more details, the better.  If you don't provide this information, you'll get a very generic answer that may not help you.  If you ask a question about an aquatic species (turtles), I'll do my best to help but again, I'm not an aquatics expert.  The same as above applies--the more details you provide, the better the answer will be.  If you ask "What should I feed my turtle?" the answer will be "I don't know," because different species have different requirements.  I really want to help as much as I can, but I need your cooperation to do that, so PLEASE follow these instructions when asking your question.

TORTOISE QUESTIONS ONLY. Questions regarding husbandry of Russian tortoises and other Mediterranean species; general tortoise care; box turtle care. If I can't answer a specific question, I can provide sources for further research. PLEASE NOTE: I AM NOT EXPERIENCED WITH AQUATIC SPECIES (TURTLES). If you ask a question about red-eared sliders or other aquatic species, I won't be able to answer your question other than to give you general information or refer you to other sources.

Experience

I have kept and bred Russian tortoises for over ten years and have other Mediterranean species plus redfoots. Have kept box turtles in the past. I work with other tortoises species at a local rescue, mostly sulcata but some leopards, California desert tortoises, yellowfoots, and box turtles.

Education/Credentials
My knowledge is based on hands-on experience keeping, breeding, and working with tortoises.
