Ask Sarracenia Northwest a Question about Carnivorous Plants

Important:

Please read the following and "Instructions from the Expert" carefully before you post the question:

  • Please don't set your question to private unless it will personally identify you. The public questions will get high priority to be answered and can benefit more users. Don't put your personal information in the question.

  • After you submit your question, we'll send you an email as a receipt. You will be notified when the answer is ready. Please make sure your email server does not block or filter out emails from allexperts.com.

  • AllExperts is a 100% free site. Our experts spend lots of time to answer your questions. We ask only that you thank and rate the volunteer's answer upon your return.

Instructions from the Expert:

We would absolutely love to help you grow beautiful carnivorous plants!  Because we work full-time at our nursery and volunteer our services on this site, please help us help you!  When submitting your question, please provide the following information:

    1) The species of carnivorous plant you're growing.
    2) A concise description of a single issue.  (One issue per submission.  No multiple questions, please.)
    3) The type of lighting, water and soil you're using.
    4) Your location to assess climate issues (e.g. Charlotte, North Carolina).
    5) A CLEAR photograph of your plant.  (Not necessary, but extremely helpful.  No blurry plant photos, please.  The plant, not the background, needs to be in focus.)

NOTE: We no longer answer how-to questions (i.e.  "How do I...").  Please avoid sending how-to questions and questions that are too general, ramble, cover too many topics or lack the requested information (see above).  These questions tend to get rejected by overworked nurserymen.  To make sure other growers can benefit from our responses, all private questions will be turned public.  Please allow up to 48 hours for a response.  Thank you!

We no longer answer how-to questions (i.e. How do I propagate...?; How do I grow...?).

Instead, we help growers by diagnosing a specific plant problem and offering solutions (i.e. Why is my sundew not producing dew?; Is now a good time to divide my Sarracenia?; Why are the traps turning black?; What's a good substitute for perlite?; Why didn't my seeds germinate?; Can you identify this carnivorous plant for me?)
