Using MS Access/Post Question

Ask Richard Rost a Question about Using MS Access

Important:

Please read the following and "Instructions from the Expert" carefully before you post the question:

  • Please don't set your question to private unless it will personally identify you. The public questions will get high priority to be answered and can benefit more users. Don't put your personal information in the question.

  • After you submit your question, we'll send you an email as a receipt. You will be notified when the answer is ready. Please make sure your email server does not block or filter out emails from allexperts.com.

  • AllExperts is a 100% free site. Our experts spend lots of time to answer your questions. We ask only that you thank and rate the volunteer's answer upon your return.

Instructions from the Expert:

- NO private questions
- NO homework questions
- Do not ask to send me your database to look at
- Sorry, I don't use Data Access Pages (they stink)
- Be specific and direct
- ONE question per day, per person please
- Followups should be about the initial question, NOT a new question
- IMPORTANT: Specify which version of Access you have, or I'll assume 2007
- Indicate your level of expertise (beginner, expert, advanced)

If you ask me a specific question, I'll try to give you a specific answer. If you ask me something vague, like "how do I build a database?" then all I'm going to do is point you in the direction of a good tutorial.

I won't read through 100 lines of your source code, so please don't post it all here. I'm not able to write complex VBA code for everyone (a few lines, maybe, but please don't ask me for whole programs). I'll help to get you started, but I'm not here to build your whole project for you.

I won't accept a copy of your database if you try to email it to me. Again, I'm here to answer specific questions - not troubleshoot your database for you (for free).

I get a LOT of questions asked of me, and I want to be able to help everyone, but I can't spend half an hour answering each question. So please, keep your questions brief, and expect a short BUT SWEET answer! :)

I sometimes get 20 or 30 questions a DAY, so it can take me anywhere from a few days to a week to get back to you. If you need an URGENT answer FASTER, visit my web site at http://www.599cd.com/TechHelp/AllExperts

PLEASE INDICATE YOUR LEVEL OF EXPERIENCE WITH ACCESS: beginner (new), intermediate (no programming), advanced (some VBA), developer (you know VBA).

Finally, I have a FREE Access 101 beginner tutorial on my Web site at:

 http://www.599cd.com/Access/AllExperts

It covers all of the basics of setting up a database, tables, queries, forms, etc. If you know nothing about Access and you need to get started, WATCH THIS TUTORIAL FIRST before asking your question. It's FREE.
