I always recommend that people are running the latest patched version of InDesign.
If you are running ID CS you should have version 3.0.1
If you are running ID CS2 you should have version 4.0.5
If you are running ID CS3 you should have version 5.0.4
If you are running ID CS4 you should have version 6.0.4
To check if you are running the latest version, run ID and then go under the help menu and check for update. If there are any updates install them. This may fix the issue that you are having.
