Dear Deirdre http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albinism http://askville.amazon.com/people-born-albinism/AnswerViewer.do?requestId=449012 http://runkle-science.wikispaces.com/Albinism http://www.tutorvista.com/content/biology/biology-iii/human-genetics/genetic-diseases.php What could be the Line of Treatment for this Genetic Disorder ? Thanks & Regards, Prashant S Akerkar |
| Answer: | There are a number of treatments depending on the type of albinism. Usually these treatments involve avoiding exposure to the Sun. Other associated problems such as crossed eyes, rapid eye movement or other vision problems are treated as usual for those conditions. Albinism does not (except for those with Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome) affect the lifespan of an individual. I don't know if any sort of stem cell research has been done to treat this condition.
